600 million children in the world walk alone through life. They have no hope for the bright future that awaits those of us in America and the West because they have no access to education, no promise that they will be safe at night, and no idea where they will find their next meal.

More appalling than slavery, more evil than terrorism, and greater than the threat of global warming, this is the issue of our time. Twice the population of the United States, all children, are sentenced to a nothing life, without the opportunity to succeed...simply because of where they were born. This is not right – it's not fair.

The greatest crisis of human history lies before us, and it is up to you to make a difference. You may be alone in the fight, but so is one child who is waiting for you to take action. One to one, you have the power to bring an end to this crisis. One willing heart can change the life of one hopeful child. One to one, you can change the world!

On February 7th the world walks together. Join your community, and the global community in the worldwideWalkathon and let one of the 600 million know that you are a part of the solution.

For one day, drop the iPod, turn off the TV, log off the internet. Walk with purpose by signing up here to be a walker. Once you’ve registered, you will choose a real child that you want to represent in the walk. Print out the child’s picture and start working getting sponsors who can support his/her scholarship fund. And while you’re doing that, anyone who chooses to be a one-time donor will be part of something great by donating to the “Build Matsiko a Home” project in Kampala, Uganda.

So, on February 7th, lace up those old sneakers and revolt against the things that separate you from two-thirds of the world’s population. Bring the reality of the 600 million to your hometown. Walk to raise awareness, walk to build a home for children in Uganda…walk for one child, and let her know that she no longer walks alone!

Walking gear, signup forms, walk locations, and a complete list of prizes for the top walkers, including two free trips to Uganda, will be coming to this site shortly. For now, please feel free to download the sign-up and registration forms so you can get begin walking out your part in the revolution against global poverty.

The worldwideWalkathon is a project of International Children’s Network (ICN),  a volunteer-based grassroots organization located in Covington, Wash. and in homes and communities across the country.
